About Me

Product engineer and designer focused on functional, manufacturable, and user-centered solutions

Hi, I’m Daniel Sonnenborg – a Danish product engineer and designer with a passion for creating functional, user-centered, and manufacturable solutions.

I’m currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Design & Innovation at DTU, where I specialize in early-stage product development, mechanical design, and rapid prototyping. My background bridges engineering and design — from CAD and FEA to UX and production workflows.

Over the years, I’ve:

  • Founded and run Mousemods ApS, developing and producing custom gaming hardware
  • Collaborated with companies such as Razer, Drop, and Carlsberg
  • Led multiple products from concept to mass production
  • Worked hands-on with 3D printing, CNC machining, and plastic moulding
  • Applied in demanding contexts — including challenging environments

Whether it’s designing accessible rescue gear, modular underwater scanners, or aesthetical gaming equipment, I aim to create products that work — and work well for the people who use them.

My Core Skills

Prototyping & Manufacturing

Experience: 5+ years
Hands-on experience with physical prototyping and small-batch manufacturing using CNC, 3D printing, and vacuum casting. I’ve launched 5 products to market and understand how to turn ideas into buildable, testable results.

3D CAD & Finite Element Analysis

Experience: 5+ years
Proficient in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and ANSYS. I use CAD and FEA for mechanical design, optimization, and simulation — ensuring strength, precision, and readiness for manufacturing.

User-Centered & Ergonomic Design

Experience: Projects in subsea scanning, gaming peripherals, etc.
I design around people – not just specs. I’ve worked with users in high-stress and high-precision environments, applying user research and ergonomic principles to deliver products that feel right.

UX/UI & Visual Communication

Experience: 8 years in graphic design, freelance work.
From physical interface layouts to digital dashboards, I design clear, intuitive interactions backed by visual clarity. Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma, Blender.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

Experience: Academic + real-world experience with Mousemods
I bridge design and production. I’ve developed products for CNC, injection molding, print, and 3D printing – from design validation to supplier communication and QA.

Product Architecture & Systems Thinking

Experience: Courses + applied in complex design projects
Understanding how parts, interfaces, and functions interact is central to scalable product design. I work with modular systems, product platforms, and design structuring for clarity and adaptability.

Form meets function

First Industrial Design Project

My first hands-on experience with industrial design: creating a minimal, portable night lamp inspired by Scandinavian aesthetics and user-centered thinking. It taught me how aesthetics, ergonomics, and usability come together in real-world products.

Engineering under pressure

BSc Thesis: Subsea Scanner Housing

In collaboration with a startup, I developed a pressure-resistant housing for an underwater 3D scanner — built for 300-meter depths and ROV use. This project challenged my understanding of structural optimization, FEA, and manufacturability in harsh environments.

Behavioral design with purpose

HabitQuest: Ethical Habit Design

HabitQuest rethinks how we use persuasive technology — using gamification and behavioral theory not to exploit, but to support well-being. A fully designed digital concept focused on habit formation, attention ethics, and sustainable UX.
